Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion has a NEW HOME in downtown Manhattan!

After 25 years as a nomadic organization, we have secured a lease for a multi-functional dance venue. The studio functions as a rehearsal space, performance space, event space, space for workshops, classes, education programs, community building, and office. We offer classes for professional dancers, dance enthusiasts, families, young dancers, emerging professionals, and college students.

Class Description

Clown work is for any dancer, actor, artist, and being who is human. Clown helps you battle your fears and identify and combat your inhibitions as an artist. We’ll dive headfirst into a series of large and small group, partner, and solo exercises–all designed to get you out of your head and into your body and heart. Get ready to play!

Class Description

This open-level Graham Modern class, taught by Vera Pagnin, welcomes dancers of all abilities to explore the foundational techniques of Martha Graham’s iconic modern dance style. The class includes a thorough warm-up, floor work, center sequences, and dynamic movement across the floor, emphasizing breath, contraction and release, and expressive storytelling through movement.

Class Description

Through a fusion of dance styles including Contemporary, Bhangra, Bollywood, Floorwork, and Street Jazz, Rohan’s class emphasizes discovering a dynamic flow within the body. The session begins with a holistic warm-up designed to break down the mechanics of moving into, out of, and around the floor. Center and across-the-floor phrases introduce techniques and movements that prepare participants for the choreography later in class. The session concludes with a musical and virtuosic phrase inspired by Rohan’s work as Artistic Director of Rovaco Dance Company. Come ready to sweat, find joy, and challenge both your mind and body.

Class Description

In this K-pop Essentials Workshop, taught by Yang Sun, dancers can expect to learn some iconic K-pop moves followed by choreography involving dynamic tempo and formation changes. Workshop will also include a brief history about the evolution of K-pop from the 70s to present day, and will cover dance styles from iconic K-pop groups such as Black Pink, BTS, Big Bang, EXO, Red Velvet, and Katseye.

In this Contemporary Partnering class, co-taught by Michelle Thompson and Caleb Patterson, dancers will learn foundational partnering exercises and skills then progress to choreography.

Come with a friend or by yourself and we will pair you up. Michelle and Caleb have been partnering and creating work together for over 7 years, and they enjoy the opportunity to bring their skills and process to others.

Class Description

This Musical Theater Jazz class, taught by Daphne Lee, will allow dancers to play with poly-rhythmic phrases, with jazz and contemporary themes in a musical theater context. We will work on executing precise movements and how to perform sequences efficiently like a Broadway dancer. In addition to movement, we will focus on performance quality as well. Class consists of a warm up, across the floor exercises and choreography.

This Vinyasa Flow class, taught by Sheri Celentano acommpanied by Johnny Holleran is a dynamic, spiritual experience of yoga and music. Sheri brings her Brooklyn Sass, Vinyasa Flow and deep sense of compassion paired with a fiery and nurturing nature, while Johnny, coming from the West Coast of Ireland brings masterful guitar playing, deep soulful singing and solid earth energy.
